Shelter Therapist

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Counseling or related field with AZ State Substance Abuse Certification and/or other state certification
  • Experience and knowledge of domestic violence and women’s issues
  • Experience and knowledge of chemical dependency
  • Experience and knowledge of program development and implementation
  • Ability to provide client assessment and crisis intervention
  • Experience with individual and group counseling
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, clients and community agencies
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing
  • Ability to utilize effective organizational skills
  • Ability to obtain Fingerprint Clearance through the AZ Department of Public Safety

Responsibilities:

  • Report to Shelter Director
  • Read Staff Log at the beginning of each shift and update as appropriate
  • Review current client files and notes on a regular basis
  • Participate as a member of the Clinical Team in providing services
  • Provide individual and group counseling for clients residing in the shelter pertaining to domestic violence, chemical dependency and recovery issues
  • Assist with staff development and training in chemical dependency
  • Perform intake interviews, assessment and crisis counseling as needed
  • Perform crisis phone counseling, screening, assessment, and referrals as needed
  • Document all pertinent client information in individual client files
  • Maintain a full case load of clients and perform aftercare as needed
  • Develop and follow through on all individual treatment plans and update treatment goals as indicated
  • Coordinate services with other community agencies
  • Maintain file compliance and complete paperwork within reasonable time frame
  • Staff clients weekly
  • Follow through on client issues discussed in weekly staffing of clients
  • Follow through on client issues according to Chrysalis’ program guidelines
  • Coordinate with other staff as a clinical team member
  • Complete required reports with the designated time frame
  • Participate in maintaining the work environment and resident living quarters
  • Adhere to Chrysalis’ policies and procedures in regards to donations
  • Demonstrate respect and appreciation to all volunteers, donors, and other community members and organizations
  • Attend and participate in shelter staff meeting and Agency retreats/training sessions
  • Adhere to policies regarding shift coverage when taking time off
  • Follow and maintain all ethical and professional guidelines as set forth by Chrysalis’ Policies and Procedures, licensure, and the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners
  • Attend on-going training as set forth in Chrysalis Policies and Procedures (24 hours of CEU’s per year following the first year of employment)
  • Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and TB testing Certification
  • Perform additional tasks as required by management
